Dixon served as the Director, Facility Patient Safety and Risk Management and Operations for COPIC from 2014 to 2020.  In her role, Ms. Dixon provided patient safety and risk management consultation and training to facilities, practitioners and staff in multiple states.  Such services included creation of and presentations on risk management topics, assessment of healthcare facilities; and development of programs and compilation of reference materials that complement physician-oriented products.\nMs. Dixon has more than twenty years of clinical experience in acute care facilities, including critical care, coronary care, peri-operative services and pain management.  Prior to joining COPIC, she served as the Director, Western Region, Patient Safety and Risk Management for The Doctors Company, Napa, California.  In this capacity, she provided patient safety and risk management consultation to the physicians and staff for the western United States.\nMs. Dixon\u2019s legal experience includes representation of clients for Social Security Disability Insurance providing legal counsel and representation at disability hearings and appeals, medical malpractice defense and representation of nurses before the Colorado Board of Nursing. \nAs a registered nurse and attorney, Laura holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Regis University, RECEP of Denver, a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Drake University College of Law, Des Moines, Iowa, and a Registered Nurse Diploma from Saint Luke\u2019s School Professional Nursing, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mark became an Assistant Attorney General in Kentucky in the area of administrative and professional law as the assigned counsel and prosecuting attorney to numerous health professions licensure boards. \nHe retired from state government, became certified as a hearing officer, and opened his own law practice, including working as a legislative agent (lobbyist).\nAs a frequent participant in continuing education, Mark has been a presenter for over thirty national and state organizations and private companies as the:\n\u00b7  Kentucky Bar Association\n\u00b7  Kentucky Office of the Attorney General\n\u00b7  National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute, and\n\u00b7  Federation of Associations of Regulatory Boards.\nThis also includes multiple, national health care organizations, including the:\n\u00b7  Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards\n\u00b7  Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy\n\u00b7  National Council of State Boards of Nursing\n\u00b7  National Association of State Emergency Medical Services Officials\n\u00b7  National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies, and;\n\u00b7  American Association of Veterinary State Boards.\nMark was the founding presenter for \u201cNavigating Ethics and Law for Mental Health Professionals,\u201d a continuing education training approved by five Kentucky mental health licensure boards.  He also founded \u201cThe Kentucky Code of Ethical Conduct:  Ethical Practice; Risk Management, and; the Code of Ethical Conduct\u201d as an approved, state-mandated continuing education for social workers offered as a video-on-demand.\nMark has now worked for all three branches of state government having worked since June 2018 as the Enforcement Counsel for the Kentucky Legislative Ethics Commission, an independent regulatory body that oversees 138 elected state legislators and nearly 800 registered lobbyists.
